Held in support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, the Teddy Bears’ Picnic is a free, exciting family-friendly event that provides kids with a developmentally appropriate understanding of what may occur in a hospital or research environment.

Some of the things to see and do at the Picnic this year, include:

  •  Over 20 tents will host a variety of fun activities for kids and caregivers to enjoy!
  • Bring your teddy bear or favorite stuffy to the Dr. Goodbear tent to have them triaged by real medical teams, like at Children’s Hospital, and have them go through a variety of tests and treatments
  • This is all set up by health care staff volunteering to help kids feel safe and less worried about what to expect if they need Children’s Hospital, where 140,000 kids visit each year.
  • There’s also the I Want to be a Scientist tent put on by Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM) with experiments and engaging child-friendly activities.
  • The Foundation has a 50/50 on now, for your change to win big and give back! The winner will be drawn live at the end of Picnic. *This is an online raffle and you do not need to be present to win.* Anyone in Manitoba can participate.Buy your ticket now at goodbear.ca/5050! Every ticket sold helps kids in Manitoba’s only children’s hospital!
  • Bring a blanket to sit and enjoy main stage acts all day like, follow-along yoga with South Studio, entertainers like LuLu and the TomCat, Nic Messner, Magician Mr. Ken, and Kickit Dance Studio.
  • Throughout the day kids can also experience activities like GellyBall, facepainting, special character visits, crafts, and even pictures with Dr. Goodbear!

Fun facts:

  • Teddy Bears’ Picnic was started by a group of dedicated volunteers in 1987.
  • For 33 years, until the worldwide pandemic, the Picnic happened every single year. COVID-19 prompted health restrictions and the staff vital to running the event, like health care teams at HSC Children’s, were needed to attend to urgent needs in the hospital and community.
  • In 2020 during the pandemic, Foundation staff hosted a virtual picnic, and now are excited to welcome back this in-person event.
  • Over 1,000 volunteers make Teddy Bears’ Picnic possible, including frontline health care staff who operate the Dr. Goodbear Clinic and I Want to be a Scientist tent.
  • Many families have memories of Picnic and this year the event is also on Grandparents Day, so bring the generations out to participate and make more memories!
  • Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba has been operating for 52 years to raise funds to help kids in hospital.
  • The Foundation is putting on this event free for all the community but remember that they need funding to support Manitoba’s only children’s hospital, so when you’re there please stop and donate – anything you can – to ensure they continue the great work.
